AFC Totton 4 Winchester City 1
City entered the Bank Holiday local derby in the unedifying position of bottom of the league and the only club without a point. Unfortunately they also finished the day in the same position with the additional burden of picking up an automatic F.A. fine of 200 pounds for having seven bookings in the game, a sign of how the new F.A.Respect campaign is biting as referee's tighten up on transgressions, and also had the misfortune to lose another player to injury with Matt Bowler coming off after ten minutes having bitten through his lip in a clash. Dean Lavell substituted.

On the bight side City had Brett Williams back after injury and on the whole played a lot better than previously. Totton took the lead in the 14th minute when a free kick was not properly defended and then Clint Davies made three first class saves as the home team turned up the pressure.

City had a let off when Adam Lang sliced a free kick just over his own bar but in the 34th minute the Stags went two-up when another free kick was placed accurately on James Taylor's head to beat Davies from close range. Although City were working well together, they never really looked like scoring, too often Williams was left with little support but almost on half time a golden opportunity went begging when Richard Gregory just failed to connect to a free kick which just drifted away from him at the far post.

City started the second half strongly with Adam Kelly completing a good move started by Lang only to be taken out by a defender. At first the crowd thought a penalty had been awarded but the referee ruled that the foul was just outside the box. Winchester penned Totton in their own half for a period with Williams heading going wide and James Eyles having an accurate strike well saved. Kelly set up another chance which again Gregory just failed to reach after a good run.

In the 70th minute Manager Andy Leader brought on Moussa Mamadou and Kyle Joryeff but had a let-off a few minutes later when Totton broke and missed the open goal with Davies stranded. City got back into the game in the 73rd minute when a rebound from a Williams' shot was picked up by Kelly who beat Gareth Barfoot in the Totton goal with a great shot.

A few minutes later Gregory brushed the crossbar from a free kick that had the keeper beaten. It now looked as if City could even go on and win the match until an unfortunate error which saw Davies come off his line, become confused as to what a defender was going to do with the ball, which allowed Osman to nip in and roll the shot home for the Stags' third goal (86th). Undeterred City came forward again Adam George probing from midfield but with City pushed up they were caught on the break to concede a fourth goal in the 89th minute.
