Flackwell Heath 3 Winchester City 4
ADDED TIME F.A. CUP WIN FOR CITY

FLACKWELL HEATH 3 WINCHESTER CITY 4
ATTENDANCE 110

City benefited from a piece of luck which has evaded them so far this
season, to snatch a dramatic injury-time F.A. Cup winner from an
unlikely source away at Wilks Park, home of Flackwell Heath on
Saturday.

City dominated the early exchanges with Moussa Mamadou having a good
shot well saved and then a run by Richard Gregory gave Brett Williams a chance which he blazed over the bar.

The home side hit back with two decent shots but they lacked accuracy and Andy Smallpiece, making his seasons debut, was not troubled.

The game came alight in the 27th minute when Kyle Joryeff hit the
Flackwell post with a delicate side-foot. Adam Kelly, following up well,
pounced on the rebound  and although the Heathens' keeper, Carl
Dennison, managed to get a hand to the ball, it dribbled over the line.

City continued to have the majority of the play but suffered a setback
in the 37th minute when acting skipper Steve Llewellyn conceded a penalty
for a push and Riccardo Cannon gave Smallpiece no chance with a
well-taken spot kick.

This equaliser galvanised Flackwell and City had a let-off a few
minutes later when Smallpiece did well to force a forward to shoot at an
acute angle across the face of an empty goal and wide of the post.
For a period the City defence came under the spotlight but with
James Wilson and Adam Lang playing their usual steady games and with
Adam George and Sam Lockyer holding midfield they did not appear to be
in trouble.

Manager Andy Leader brought on Carl Foster for Joryeff at the start of
what proved to be a typical cup tie second half with neither side
able to strike the killer blow right up to the final twist.

Foster immediately got into the game setting up Gregory whose shot was
blocked but ran to Mamadou who powered home his first goal for the
club in the 46th minute.

For a period City contained the home side and looked capable of increasing
their lead but in the 56th minute they left themselves wide open by
pushing up too far and were caught by a long ball and Leigh Mason put
Flackwell back on even terms.

On the hour Mamadou left the field after a period of injury treatment
and was replaced by Ben Morgan. Just after Kelly looked to have put
City back in front but the keeper managed to smother his shot.

At the other end City had another let-off but Smallpiece made another
good save as he was left exposed. Winchester continued to press
forward, however, and a perfect Lang corner was put just wide by
Williams.  Dan King came on in the 70th minute replacing Gregory and in
the 77th minute City looked to have sewn up the tie when Lang squared a
free kick to Kelly whose powerful shot rebounded off the keeper to
Foster who beat him from close range.

A super piece of individual skill from Williams, who lobbed one
defender and ran round another, looked to have created a goal but the
keeper just beat him to the ball as he shaped up.

With time running out for Flackwell they equalised in the 90th minute
when a cross from the left was knocked in by Darren Moore. Cannon could
have won the game for Flackwell but again Smallpiece came to the
rescue. Far from being deflated City staged a spirited comeback as the
referee continued to play added time which he later reported was
awarded for alleged time wasting by Smallpiece. In the 94th minute King
lobbed the ball into the Flackwell penalty area more in an effort to
keep it in their half than as a shot. The keeper came off his line and
the ball sailed over his head into the net!

King was one of the City apprentices brought along by Andy Leader to
experience the F.A. Cup and did not expect to play let alone score
the winner - such are Cup dreams made of.

City face A.F.C.Totton in the next round.
